Compared to a lot of other versions (some pretty awful!) this is a good, faithful image of the originals, and - unlike the recent Luc Besson movie - Laureline is a redhead!! I've only seen stills and read a detailed plot summary of the movie, but I was surprised that self-declared life-long fan Besson completely lost the essense of both the amazing Christin/Mezieres universe AND the two characters, Laureline especially. I read part of the "Ambassador of the Shadows" back in the early 1980s in "Heavy Metal", but only recently 'rediscovered' almost the complete series. The early books 0-2 are a bit crude and cartoonish (very "Lucky Luke" influence) but they very soon improve and develop. Apparently Valerian was supposed to be a sort of hapless 'anti-hero', a bit devious at times. But the real brilliance (after the stories and artwork) of the series for me is Laureline. I put her up there in the fictional heroine stakes with Peter O'Donnell's Modesty Blaise and Necrovert's Bree from "Delve". She is feisty, sharp intelligent, sharp tongued, a feminist icon, plus she has a great arse!
Good piece of work. Would love to see of them from you.
